The Global Legal Skills Conference was founded by Professor Mark E. Wojcik of The John Marshall Law School in 2005 in Chicago and has been held annually in different locations around the world. The conference has become one of the most important international conferences in legal skills education. It is connecting legal writing professionals who teach international students and lawyers and has since grown to include not only legal writing faculty, but also international and comparative law professors, clinical faculty, linguists, librarians, judges, attorneys, court translators, law students, and scholars promoting global legal skills education. At the 11th iteration in 2016 in Verona, the conference drew more than 100 professionals from around the world.

The Global Legal Skills Awards are presented to individuals, exceptional books, companies, professional associations, law firms, and other organizations around the world that advance the teaching of global legal skills, give special support for global legal skills, or have made significant contributions to the promotion and improvement of global legal skills.

The Lawbility Professional Legal Language Program was awarded the Global Legal Skills Award 2016 in the category institutional winners, in recognition of its innovative programming, publications, and demonstrated commitment to excellence in global legal skills education.
